Michael Owen finally made his long-awaited comeback but his presence could not prevent Newcastle United slipping to a 1-0 defeat to Reading at the Madejski Stadium.

Cheechoo lifts Sharks past Red Wings 2-1 (AP)



The Detroit Red Wings seemed plenty comfortable at the hostile Shark Tank in the first 30 minutes, skating faster and checking harder than their hosts. The Sharks finally figured out how to escape their midgame malaise when coach Ron Wilson shuffled all four of his lines, while Jonathan Cheechoo redoubled his efforts on his aching knee.

Braves win on Andruw Jones' walk-off HR (AP)



Tim Hudson took the mound with the initials "JH" on the front of his jersey. Before every inning, he scribbled the letters "VM" in the dirt with his cleats. Pacman Jones files appeal of suspension (AP)



Titans cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones has filed his appeal of a season-long suspension and a hearing with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell should be held within the next two weeks, a league spokesman said Monday. Jones said earlier this month he planned to appeal and NFL spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed Monday that Jones' letter arrived at league offices over the weekend.

Sens blank Devils, take 2-1 series lead (AP)



Ray Emery held off the Devils until his Ottawa Senators teammates could find a way to score on Martin Brodeur. Emery stopped 25 shots for his second playoff shutout and Tom Preissing scored 4:46 into the third period, leading Ottawa to a 2-0 win over the New Jersey Devils in Game 3 of their playoff series Monday night.
